Opportunities
At SIU, there are many opportunities for students to get involved and explore areas of interest. Here are some of the most popular RSO’s (Registered Student Organizations) that our Forestry and Horticulture students are involved with. For a complete listing of RSO’s on campus, (and information on how to start a new one!)
American Water Resources Association
Club Overview:
The Southern Illinois University student chapter of American Water Resources Association (AWRA) strives to provide opportunities for development of professional and academic interests in the field of water resources, and to provide information to the community at large. The group works toward this goal by hosting speakers in the water resources arena, delivering watershed education programs to grade school and junior high students, volunteering for local natural and water resources community activities, and recreating in local wetlands and streams.
Club Motto/Theme: "To provide for the development of professional and academic interests in the field of water resources, and to provide information to the community at large"
News:
The American Water Resources organization recently named the SIUC group as its most "Outstanding Student Chapter" in country. Dr. Karl Williard, Professor of Forestry, said the club's success stems from the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment from club members. Each year, the club plans several hands-on projects throughout the year. Williard states, "They've spent a lot of time performing watershed education programs with middle school students, Girls Scouts, and the community at large... This has provided some great hands-on learning opportunities for undergraduate students who are interested in water resources management."
